Mission Statement

Ho`omaka Hou Learning Center (HMH) offers adults in transition a non-threatening supportive environment to acquire basic literacy and digital skills helping them rise from positions of social dependency to increasing levels of self sufficiency.

Whatever their story, Ho`omaka Hou serves for many as the first step to preparing the disadvantaged for a bright future of education, self-sufficiency and self-advocacy. Each participant works one-on-one with a team of dedicated volunteers to help reach their goals.

Whether the goal is to pass the GED, apply for a job, learn English, or simply master a keyboard mouse and the Internet, one of the key objectives of Ho’omaka Hou is to foster a safe and self-paced learning environment for each and every participant.

We are all about helping others set sail. And nothing gives us greater pleasure than the phone-calls and e-mails we receive from those who reached their destination. Whether they secured a job, were able to help their kids with their homework or were simply able to look in a mirror and hold their head up high.
